Shakoy/Bicho-bicho
Eating "meryenda" at 3 pm with my mother was always my favorite part of the day; it was also my childhood. Since we are on the subject of meryendas, we will talk about a traditional Filipino deep-fried doughnut called "Shakoy" or Bicho-Bicho, and we are going to try it! When I was young, I could taste different bread from the nearby bakery and have it paired with a glass of soda. It was such a dream for me, and shakoy was one of my favorites as a kid cause it's a simple but tasty donut.
WHAT IS SHAKOY?
- It is a native delicacy here in the Philippines that is one of the most favorite afternoon snacks. It is a twisted donut that looks like a rope, and it has been quite a while since I've eaten it. It is soft, chewy, and crunchy. You can easily find this dish even in local markets and street vendors.
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?
- We will do a food tasting of the snack shakoy! I recently got it from my Lola from the nearby bakery and asked to buy me some of it. I didn't go out due to Covid. We all should follow protocols to avoid this situation.
The performance overall is good and has a good amount of sugar to my liking. It is good to eat with a drink, and I also eat this snack in my free time after doing my homework. It is better to eat this freshly out of the oven because my bread was a bit cold since it was bought earlier than I expected. I enjoyed this snack since it was delicious!
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT WAYS TO SERVE THIS?
- This can be served as fluffy and soft.
- It also can be served as crunchy and chewy.
- You can serve this in the afternoon with chocolate syrup and a cold drink or in the morning with coffee or hot chocolate.
HOW DO WE MAKE IT?
- There are a lot of websites on how to make this snack and I will show you my favorites!
Thank you for reading! Stay tuned for more.
